Rachel Camilleri- Abstract Artist
Rachel Camilleri first approached us in early March of this year with a specific design and budget in mind. A site survey and final design followed soon after the first contact. With a little bit of luck on her side, an availability in our build calendar popped up and we were on site building in her gorgeous Monton garden, in April. Just 2 weeks later, Rachel had her very own creative space”… all in time for her birthday. What a very special present indeed!

Striking paintings adorn all the wall space of Rachel’s garden art studio. Her work is a vibrant mix of colours, shapes and textures.
What are the main inspirations for your art?
“Colour and shape spark my creativity”
Rachel goes on to explain how she notices colours and shapes everywhere and there are a multitude that inspire our client… home decor, commercial buildings, restaurant and bar interiors, nature, places she visits and in particular her hometown of Manchester. The artist enjoys urban art and finds Manchester’s Northern Quarter provides a mass of street art to inspire her.
What mediums do you work in or is it continuous experimentation?
“At the moment I mainly work in acrylic and spray paint medium. However, I have used ink in the past and lots of different texture making products like sand resin and modelling paste. I have loads of ideas for the future so hope to experiment with other types of medium”
Your Instagram bio says you are a ‘self-taught’ artist – how has your career evolved/developed?
Although Rachel studied art at A-level, her Media and Business Studies degree took her down a slightly different path. Working in media and then the public sector, art always remained a hobby in the background.
The busy mum of 3 small boys finally took the plunge back in Jan this year to set up an Instagram page and officially declare to the world that she is an artist and people could buy her work. A brave step, but certainly a step in the right direction.
The decision to invest in her very own garden art studio Rachel’s working space moved from the light deprived garage to this creative haven, she now flourishes in. The glazed corner, created by oversized sliding doors meeting a large fixed pane allows natural light to flood in.
Rachel sells her work directly through her Instagram page. She hopes to set up a website and expand to other social media networks in the future. But for now people can contact her through instagram @rachelcamilleriart and arrange to visit her fabulous garden art studio to view her work. Rachel is also available for commissioned artwork too.
Where is the most rewarding ‘space’ you’ve seen your art displayed?
“Inside a client’s home.”
When commissioned to do a piece of art, Rachel likes to visit the client’s home to assess the environment, the existing decor, colours, shapes and the size required. Once she has all this information, she creates the piece keeping the client informed at every stage.” It’s extremely rewarding when the client is happy with the piece and you finally see it hanging up in their home”.
Here is a picture of a recent commission looking beautiful in a client’s home:
Do you have a favourite artist/piece of art?
“I follow quite a lot of different types of artists. My UK favourites are Antonio Russo and Lincoln Townley. I love the work of Australian artists Kirsten Jackson and Maggi McDonald and Toronto artist Courtney Senior and also American artist Holly Addi.”
Any advice for aspiring artists?
“Enjoy what you are doing and don’t take it too seriously…just be yourself…paint what you feel”
How has your new garden art studio impacted your work/life?
“It’s amazing …it’s my own little creative space….no one else is allowed in.
The best thing is the whole work-life balance that it’s provided and being able to work whilst the boys play is perfect”
