Inch-perfect dimensions (well millimetre actually!) and numerous detailed modifications make this new garden studio perfect for the owners.
Proving that “off the shelf” sometimes doesn’t quite work, this is Swifts latest project. A smart and contemporary Manchester garden studio that had to be skilfully planned and accurately built in order to fit into a confined, but perfect spot in a landscaped garden. Measurements only allowed for 100mm clearance on two sides and limited access demanded greater pre-fabrication than usual to allow the garden room to be built to the high standards that will produce a permanent and guaranteed structure.
Did you know that buildings that are close to neighbouring properties are often required to adhere to building regulations that demand materials that will prevent the spread of fire? No problem for Swift whose buildings have never failed to impress building control officers.
This garden room, used primarily as an office, has stylish aluminium framed windows to two sides to create a lighter environment as well as ventilation. The main doors are large sliding patio doors to maximise the glazed area and minimise obscuring frame elements. The best choice of glass for the aspect and environment will help to maintain the best temperatures all the year round. The doors too were of a non-standard size so that a particular desk could be fitted into a recess… exactly as the owners preferred.
Light switches in a different spot to allow for a large mirror on the wall..no problem, a raised lip on the roof to accommodate smart looking synthetic grass .. a pleasure. We salvaged existing decking to be re-used on the wide step so that it matched the rest of the landscaping in the garden, and reinstated the decking down the side of the building to tidy up the whole setting. Choices of colour schemes, floor coverings, position and number of sockets …. everything to suit the client who likes to have a choice.
Individually, all these elements may not sound too special, but the whole package makes all the difference in the world. It means that the building fits like a glove and anything special that you want from it just simply works! And the beauty is that many of these changes don’t cost the earth, they are just down to our eagerness to delight our clients with truly inspired environments. Careful planning, meticulous project management, top class suppliers and excellent installers make the finished garden room a pleasure.
